Godzilla #12

Dark Horse's Godzilla: King of the Monsters #12 (1996) opens with a cover painting by Bob Eggleton that earns every bit of the ominous header copy — "We have seen the future, and it has been destroyed by Godzilla." The great beast looms against a hellish orange sky, dorsal spines blazing with eerie light as a volcanic eruption roars behind him, bathing the entire scene in molten reds and golds. It's a genuinely atmospheric piece of work that sets a brooding, apocalyptic tone for Part Four of this Dark Horse saga, with interior story work from writer Alex Cox and artist Brandon McKinney.
