“Two Roads to Romance”

A carousel sets the scene for this early 1950s romance, with a young woman in a red top gazing warmly down at a man who looks up at her with clear admiration — the painted fairground horse beside them adding a touch of whimsy to the moment. The cover teases the featured story, "Two Roads to Romance," with the tantalizing question: "Which would be my fate — happiness or heartache?" With 52 romantic pages for just ten cents, this 1951 DC romance offering, featuring a story by Natalie Krigstein, delivers the emotional tension and heartfelt storytelling that made Girls' Love Stories such an appealing read.

Ellen’s fellow department store employee and boyfriend Ken is too busy with work to spend much time with her, so he urges her to take night classes. Ellen does so well that she’s hired by a rival store and helps its sales. Ken proposes to Ellen but she thinks it’s only so she’ll come back to his store, and turns him down. When her new boss also proposes but ties it to her work, Ellen quits and opens a jewelry shop. Ken shows up and buys an engagement ring – for her. They reconcile.
