Gilles de Geus #5

The fifth album in the Gilles de Geus series sends its cast of rogues onto the high seas with "De Batavia," and Hanco Kolk's cover sets the scene with tremendous energy — a massive tall ship is battered by a stormy, lightning-streaked ocean, its billowing sails straining as figures cling to the rigging and hull while a character is swept through the churning waves below. The four character portraits lined up along the left spine give a fine preview of the colorful, exaggerated faces that define this Dutch comedy-adventure series. Written by Peter de Wit and Hanco Kolk, with art by Kolk throughout, this is a lively addition to the series published by Silvester in 2001.
