Peter de Wit
1958–
Peter de Wit was born on March 10, 1958, in Beverwijk, Netherlands. He is best known as the creator of the long-running comic strips *Sigmund* and *De Familie Fortuin*, as well as for his frequent collaborations with writer and artist Hanco Kolk. Together, de Wit and Kolk co-created the historical adventure series *Gilles de Geus* and the relationship comic *S1NGLE*. De Wit’s clean, expressive linework and dry, observational humor made his work a staple of Dutch newspapers and magazines. He worked steadily from 1979 through 2021, contributing to over 130 issues across titles such as *Relevant*, *Sjors en Sjimmie Stripblad*, and the collected editions of his own series. While de Wit’s work has been widely reprinted and syndicated, specific major awards are not recorded in the available material. His later career continued to focus on *Sigmund*, a single-panel strip about a cynical psychiatrist, which became one of the most recognizable comics in the Netherlands. Peter de Wit remains a significant figure in Dutch cartooning, noted for his consistent output and his fruitful partnership with Kolk.
