About this Issue

Giant-Size Little Marvels #1 (June 2024) marks the first time that Skottie Young and Dax Gordine's chibi-style 'Little Marvels' Infinity Comic stories — originally created as digital-only vertical comics exclusive to Marvel Unlimited in 2021 — reached a physical print audience, making it a genuine format milestone for the medium's evolving digital-to-print pipeline. The issue is also a capstone celebration of the decade-plus tradition of Young's pint-sized Marvel characters, a visual vernacular that began with variant covers around 2012 and grew into its own storytelling brand encompassing the X-Men, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and many more. It sits within Marvel's deliberate 2024 revival of the Giant-Size one-shot format — echoing the storied 1970s anthology tradition — as a showcase for all-ages comedy storytelling that spans virtually the entire Marvel character roster. As a collected print edition of a well-received digital run, it demonstrates how the Infinity Comics format can serve as a creative incubator for stories that ultimately earn a permanent physical life on the shelf.

History

The content collected here originated as the Giant-Size Little Marvels: Infinity Comic (2021), an eight-issue digital series written by Skottie Young and drawn by Dax Gordine that launched on September 9, 2021, as part of Marvel Unlimited's high-profile app relaunch and its new line of exclusive vertical-format 'Infinity Comics.' The creative team — with coloring by Jean-François Beaulieu and lettering by Nate Piekos, edited by Stephen Wacker — produced weekly short-form stories in a Webtoon-style vertical format, starring chibi versions of Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Doom, Rocket Raccoon, and the wider Marvel Universe. Marvel timed the 2024 print debut to coincide with a broader June 2024 celebration of Young's career, packaging the collected digital stories into a 48-page full-color one-shot that also tied in with 27 new 'Skottie Young's Big Marvel' variant covers across the line and a commemorative poster — all marking roughly ten-plus years since Young's baby-character variant covers became a fixture on Marvel's biggest launches.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • First print publication of the Giant-Size Little Marvels: Infinity Comic (2021), an eight-issue digital series that had previously been exclusive to the Marvel Unlimited app.
  • Written and covered by Skottie Young (Eisner Award-winning artist, Strange Academy, Rocket & Groot), with interior art by Dax Gordine (Untold Tales of Fairyland, Forest Folk); coloring by Jean-François Beaulieu and lettering by Nate Piekos on the original digital issues.
  • The Infinity Comic originals debuted September 9, 2021, as part of Marvel Unlimited's app relaunch — one of the inaugural titles in the new vertical-format 'Infinity Comics' line, alongside X-Men Unlimited, It's Jeff, Captain America, and others.
  • Released as a 48-page full-color one-shot on June 26, 2024, as part of a wider Marvel celebration of Young's career milestone (approximately 10–12 years of baby/chibi-style variant covers for the publisher).
  • Part of Marvel's 2024 revival of the Giant-Size one-shot format, which also included Giant-Size Spider-Man #1 and Giant-Size Fantastic Four #1, consciously echoing the classic 1970s Marvel anthology structure of pairing new stories with reprints.
  • Stories feature chibi/pint-sized versions of characters spanning the full Marvel roster: X-Men (Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Iceman, Havok, Magneto, and more), Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and more), Guardians of the Galaxy (Rocket Raccoon, Groot), Spider-Man family (Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Ghost-Spider), and major villains (Doctor Doom, Thanos, Apocalypse, Red Skull, Dormammu, Hela, Loki, and others).
  • The 2021 digital series story titles include 'Sorry, Cap,' 'Project Iron-Way!,' 'With This Stone... I Thee Dead,' 'Shame of Thrones!,' a three-part 'Game Night' arc, and 'A Far Stretch' — all eight issues collected in the print edition.
  • Young's chibi/baby-character visual style for Marvel dates to approximately 2012 as variant covers for the Marvel NOW! relaunch, making the Little Marvels franchise the fullest narrative expression of that long-running artistic tradition.
