“The Lonesome Death of Johnny Blaze!”

In "The Lonesome Death of Johnny Blaze!", a 1980 Marvel classic, Johnny Blaze lives a double life—working at Langtree Motors by day, haunted by a forgotten past by night. When a high-stakes race with a rival mechanic stirs long-buried memories, Johnny’s past erupts in a shocking confrontation, forcing him to become Ghost Rider just in time. Written by Michael Fleisher and illustrated by Don Perlin, with colors by Ben Sean and letters by Diana Albers, the issue’s cover by Bob Budiansky and Bob Wiacek captures the moment of reckoning.

With his memory wiped, Johnny works for Langtree Motors by day and is unaware that he turns to Ghost Rider by night. During a testosterone laced race with one of Langtrees' mechanics for the hand of the lovely Gina, Johnny regains his memory just as Travis is trying to kill him and he turns into Ghost Rider in the nick of time. Unaware of anything that happened after he got knocked on the head, Johnny takes off forgetting all about Gina.
