“The Future Is a Four-Letter Word, Part 2”

Kieron Gillen and Salvador Espin's 2011 series hits its second chapter with a cover by Olivier Coipel and Laura Martin that announces trouble in genuinely unsettling terms — a grotesquely mutated figure, fleshy and spiked with coiling mechanical tubes and glowing red eyes, lunges forward with clawed hands in a display of barely contained menace. Whatever this new mutant's power set looks like, it's clearly something far beyond ordinary, and the cover makes no effort to soften that reality. "The Future Is a Four-Letter Word, Part 2" promises that Generation Hope's young cast is facing threats that are as viscerally strange as anything the X-Men's world can produce.
