The Gargoyles: Demona series grew out of an idea pitched by Frank Paur — the animated series' co-showrunner and supervising producer — to his longtime collaborator Greg Weisman; the two then developed the story together alongside editor Nate Cosby and SLG-era colorist Robby Bevard, with the full backing of Dynamite Entertainment and Disney. Notably, issue #5 marked only the second piece of Paur's interior comics work, continuing his collaboration with Weisman that began with the FCBD #0 prologue in May 2025. The series itself was the fourth Gargoyles comic miniseries published by Dynamite since 2022 and launched under turbulent distribution conditions — issue #1 was delayed due to problems with Diamond Distribution, after which Dynamite severed ties with Diamond and moved to Lunar Distribution in June 2025; issue #5, released December 17, 2025, thus arrived under the stabilized new distribution arrangement. Weisman publicly described the five-issue arc as shifting genres issue by issue, with #5 intentionally conceived as an elegy from the outset.
