Garfield #2
Garfield #2 (2024) is part of the first comic book series in years to directly adapt the continuity and character roster of Alcon Entertainment's 2024 animated film, extending that story universe beyond the screen. Most notably, it is the issue that formally names the bird character 'Barry' in print — a character who appeared anonymously in the film itself, making this the first time that name becomes canonical in any published medium. As the second chapter of a four-issue KaBOOM! anthology series built around an anthology-within-an-issue format, it also represents BOOM! Studios' ongoing editorial strategy of pairing multiple independent creative teams on a single licensed franchise to broaden the stylistic range of all-ages comics.

The 2024 Garfield limited series was conceived as a direct tie-in to Alcon Entertainment's animated film, which debuted worldwide through Sony Pictures in May 2024. BOOM! Studios, publishing through their all-ages KaBOOM! imprint, structured the series as a rotating anthology: each issue pairs two separate creative teams, each delivering a self-contained short story. For issue #2, writers Ryan Estrada and Brinson Thieme split duties, with artist Axur Eneas (returning from issue #1) joined by Dozerdraws on the second story. The entire four-issue run was later collected in a trade paperback titled Garfield: Family Style, released in May 2025.
