The four-issue miniseries was developed under BOOM! Studios' KaBOOM! all-ages imprint as a deliberate tie-in to Alcon Entertainment's animated film The Garfield Movie, which debuted through Sony Pictures in May 2024. Rather than assembling a fixed creative team, BOOM! structured each issue as an anthology with rotating writer-artist pairings, a format the imprint had used in earlier Garfield limited series. Issue #3 specifically brought in writer Brinson Thieme and artist Matt Froese (with colors by Ian Herring) for the 'Critter Talk' story, while series contributor Sarah Graley wrote and drew the companion piece 'Surprise Heist,' with Stef Purenins lettering both.
