Gabby Hyatt and his friends encounter multiple comedic mishaps: in one story, they plan a camping trip in Sawyer's Woods but encounter an escaped bear from the zoo; in another, they attempt to use a vacuum cleaner to catch a talking parrot that escapes while being used by a salesman named Mr. Frumpwell, leading to chaos at a party; and in a third story, Gabby and his friends become amateur reporters trying to find exciting news to report, resulting in a bank robbery they witness but cannot adequately document.

Gabby's confident he'll win a local swimming race—until rival Philip Smedley enters the competition and gets under his skin. When Gabby comes down with a cold on race day, he convinces his reluctant friend Algy Duckworth to swim in his place, armed with nothing but an outboard motor and Gabby's assurance that he can do it. What unfolds is a hilarious test of nerve, friendship, and whether a little confidence can overcome even the most absurd odds.

Gabby and his pal Peahead decide to call Algy's bluff about his flying nerve by building a ramshackle plane from salvaged parts—and convincing him he's the test pilot who'll take it airborne. What Algy doesn't realize is that Gabby and Peahead have no idea how to fly either, and their "jet" is missing something pretty crucial to keep it in the air.

Armed with their new sales pitch and a seemingly miraculous product, the two young hustlers set out to convince the wealthy folks of town that they simply must have a Slurp, with hilariously chaotic results that test their confidence in unexpected ways.

Now they've got the scoop of a lifetime, but convincing Principal Duckworth that bank bandits are real will be tougher than passing the assignment itself.
