“Origin Declassified- Part 1”

"Origin Declassified – Part 1" kicks off with the G.I. Joe team in the field during a high-stakes recon mission in Sierra Gordo, scrambling to escape as subversives close in. Meanwhile, back at Fort Wadsworth’s motor pool, two chaplain’s assistants, Damian and Pythias, grow uneasy about the mysterious disappearances of vehicles—and Short-Fuze notices something odd about a fellow assistant wearing combat medals, defying her supposed role. With Hawk meeting an agent Provost in a tense intelligence exchange and the team still on the run, this first chapter sets a tight, grounded tone for the series. Written by Larry Hama and illustrated by Pat Quinn, with inks by Valentine DeLandro, colors by Rob Ruffolo, and letters by Brian Crowley, the cover by Francis J. Manapul captures the urgency of the moment.

We are being introduced to the Joe team for the first time as a group of them is doing some recon in Sierra Gordo when all hell breaks loose, forcing them to flee as they are being followed by subversives. Meanwhile, we begin to see more of their hq under Ft. Wadsworth's motor pool as 2 chaplain's assistants, Damian and Pythias, begin to ask questions as to why vehicles enter the motor pool but disappear suddenly. They are sent off by Shooter (who, unbeknownst to the Joes is one of their own), and Short-Fuze begins to wonder why a chaplain's assistant would be wearing medals such as a combat infantry badge, as well as an expert rifleman's badge on her uniform, when they are supposed to be pacifistic. In between the motor pool drama and the Sierra Gordo campaign, we see Hawk having a meeting with an agent Provost (later known as Chuckles), exchanging intel on Cobra. The first part of this story ends with the Joes in Sierra Gordo still running for their lives.
