G.I. Joe #46
In G.I. Joe #46, Ripcord—posing as Zartan—finds himself captured and brought to the new Cobra base on Cobra Island, where Professor Appel uncovers the ruse after spotting Candy’s photo on him. As the Joes launch a search and rescue, they free Ripcord—only to find his injuries don’t add up, sparking suspicion in Spirit. Meanwhile, Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow arrive, ready to confront the man they believe is the Hard Master’s killer, just as Appel activates the experimental minifighter to intervene. Written by Larry Hama and illustrated by Rod Whigham, with inks by Andy Mushynsky and colors by George Roussos, the cover by Mike Zeck captures the tension in bold, dynamic lines.

Ripcord (as Zartan) is taken into the new Cobra base on Cobra Island, and Professor Appel discovers the deception when he sees Candy's picture on his person and Ripcord explains to him about where Candy is (or isn't right now). The Joes, launch a recon/search and rescue for Ripcord, then rescue him (actually Zartan), but Spirit's suspicious of him when he notices the bullet wound's all wrong. Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow land on the island about to get whom they think is Zartan (the Hard Master's killer), when Appel launches the experimental new minifighter, saving Ripcord from harm.
