☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe issue contains two stories: In the first, G.I. Jane sings while performing various domestic chores and later encounters military personnel at what appears to be a gate, where she is stopped for an expired pass. In the second story, "PX Pete" (subtitled "The Sergeant with a Soul"), a sergeant in a yellow uniform distributes special cigarettes at an exchange, and later offers some to Private Whirly, who plans to retrieve his glasses from Captain Johnson's quarters. A separate story titled "Girl (Pvt.) Meets Boy (Lt.)" follows Private Jane Whirly as she visits a Captain's quarters and encounters a fire alarm that sends her fleeing the building.
In a lighthearted military comedy, Private Jane Whirly finds herself unexpectedly reunited with the beloved movie star Van Handsome during a visit to the service club, much to the delight of her fellow G.I.s—especially Katie Kay, who’s both envious and amused by the attention. As the barracks buzz with excitement over the star’s arrival, a series of mishaps, including a mistaken identity and a dramatic fainting spell, lead to an unlikely but charmingly awkward moment that leaves everyone entertained.
Pvt. Katie Kay celebrates her unexpected three-hour pass, dreaming of spending it in town—especially with a good-looking MP she’s heard about—only to rush back to the gate just as it expires, narrowly avoiding trouble. M.Sgt. J. Blood watches with amused disbelief as she scrambles to make it in time, reminding her that longer passes might not have ended better.
Sarge assigns a reluctant private to kitchen duty, only to take him under his wing and teach him how to thoroughly clean a stove with meticulous care. As the private marvels at the sergeant’s unexpected kindness and attention to detail, Mess Sergeant MacDonald arrives to take over, leaving the private to face the full weight of his new chore.
Private Jane Whirly accidentally meets Lieutenant Hanley after mistaking a fire drill for a real emergency and tumbling into his arms on the sun-deck. After a flirtatious exchange and a mistaken assumption that she’s a captain, Jane is caught in a compromising situation with the officer, leading to a series of comedic mishaps and a surprising twist when the shoe repairman identifies her as a private—prompting her to pursue officer candidacy with renewed determination.
