"The Edge of the Sea" depicts two friends who encounter a mysterious sea creature; one uses a robot to help retrieve a monstrous creation from the ocean depths, only for the device to malfunction and sink to the bottom, where it becomes encrusted and deteriorates over time. A second story involves a man named Carl who discovers a "misty crystal" that transports him through time; after using it to travel to the future and witnessing rapid urban development on the Jenson lot, he returns to his own era and attempts to profit by purchasing the property cheaply, only to have his scheme unravel when he learns his rival has already bought it at a much lower price.
Martin Chesterton, a brilliant research scientist, has spent years building a remarkable robot with an electronic brain so sensitive it can respond to thought itself. When he finally activates his creation, he collapses from nervous exhaustion—but in falling, he unknowingly sets the machine in motion, and it begins fulfilling his every stray wish across the Atlantic while he vacations in Paris, unaware of the chaos unfolding back home. Now stolen money, wrecked buildings, and a baffled police force are all pointing to the one man who couldn't possibly be guilty.
Frank and Alice Peale inherit Saxon Hall and discover their ancestor, Sir Ambrose Peale, amassed a privateering fortune centuries ago—but the treasure's location died with him. When a mysterious visitor named Mr. Corwin arrives claiming he can contact the departed Sir Ambrose through hypnosis to reveal where the riches are hidden, Frank agrees to undergo a séance, despite Alice's misgivings. What unfolds in Saxon Hall's shadowy corridors will test whether the past can truly be summoned—and what price such knowledge might demand.
Carl Matson receives a mysterious glass ball from India containing the goddess Ashtoo, who grants him the power to glimpse possible futures—a gift he uses to scout lucrative real estate deals and build a fortune. But when Carl's greed drives him to peer thirty years ahead to the year 1959, seeking the ultimate investment, his carefully laid plans begin to unravel in ways he never anticipated.
