Writer Alex Stone's story comes to life when the characters he created escape from the pages of his manuscript. A woman named Margaret Lawrence, one of Stone's fictional creations, materializes in the real world and attempts to prevent her own story from reaching its tragic conclusion, ultimately saving Stone's life by warning him of a lightning strike that was about to destroy his home. Stone learns that the strange pills his character possessed allowed him to read the future, and he realizes that Margaret's intervention from within his own narrative has altered his fate for the better.
