Foiled #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collected edition presents the first volume of Jane Yolen's fantasy graphic novel series, illustrated by Mike Cavallaro. It follows Aliera Carstairs, a high school fencer who discovers her foil is actually a magical blade that connects her to a hidden world of fairies, dragons, and destiny. The story blends realistic teen drama with supernatural adventure, setting up a larger conflict between the human and fairy realms.
In Foiled #1: "Engagement," Aliera’s routine wait at Grand Central Station takes a surreal turn when a persistent bird drives her to put on her fencing mask—uncovering a hidden world of supernatural beings beneath the station’s surface. Suddenly seeing color for the first time, she’s hailed as Defender Xenda, thrust into a strange, vivid reality where a jeweled practice foil becomes her only weapon. With the city’s unseen dangers now exposed, Aliera steps forward, unsure if she’s part of a performance or something far more real. Written by Jane Yolen and brought to life by Mike Cavallaro’s dynamic art and a vibrant color team, the issue’s cover by Cavallaro captures the moment her world changes.
