Foiled

From 2010 onward, First Second published this single-issue graphic novel by writer Jane Yolen and artist Mike Cavallaro. It follows a teenage fencer whose carefully ordered life is upended when a mysterious new classmate draws her into a hidden world of magic and adventure. Yolen's deft storytelling and Cavallaro's clean, expressive art make this a quietly memorable entry in the young-adult fantasy comics landscape.
