The Man-Thing looms out of the swamp in all his muck-encrusted menace on this November 1973 issue of Adventure into Fear, with cover art by John Romita capturing the creature's imposing, tentacle-faced form bearing down on a desperate trio — a man urgently pulling a blonde woman named Mary to safety while a child named Kevin struggles in the water below. The cover's dialogue crackles with panic and divided loyalties, perfectly setting the tone for Steve Gerber's story "A Question of Survival!" brought to life inside by artist Val Mayerik and inker Sal Trapani. At just 20 cents, this was Marvel's premier horror-adventure title delivering genuine tension alongside one of the era's most distinctive monsters.
