Faultlines #3

The third chapter of DC Vertigo's six-part Faultlines series arrives in July 1997 with a cover by Bill Koeb that is quietly unsettling — a luminous, X-ray-like human torso floats against a dark, richly layered collage of color, ribs and spine rendered in warm amber and gold as though flesh and skeleton exist simultaneously. It's the kind of image that feels less like a superhero cover and more like visceral art-house photography, perfectly suited to Vertigo's mature-readers sensibility. Writer Lee Marrs and artist Bill Koeb are clearly crafting something thoughtful and strange with "The Crone's Share," and this cover makes a compelling case to keep reading.
