Fall of Cthulhu #6
"The Gathering, Part 1 of 5: Sysyphyx" delivers a chilling start to a five-part descent into cosmic dread, with writer Michael Alan Nelson and artist Greg Scott crafting a tense arctic expedition that spirals into something far beyond human comprehension. When a group of men uncover a mysterious ship and a sealed trunk under orders to leave it untouched, the sole survivor, Connor, recounts the tale in a dimly lit bar—only to set off a chain of events that culminates in a terrifying transformation. The cover by Vatche Mavlian captures the story’s creeping dread, while Joël Séguin’s colors and Ed Dukeshire’s lettering deepen the atmosphere of isolation and unease.

Five men are on an arctic expedition for Mr. Arkham, searching for a ship. Their equipment fails and they want to stop the expedition but Mr. Arkham employee Connor insists they continue. They find the ship containing a trunk. Connor tells them that no one is to open the trunk. Three months later Connor is in a bar telling a girl the story and he says he is the only one who made it back alive. She goes back to his boarding house and when she opens the trunk Sysyphyx pops out and kills her, taking over her body. Nyarlathotep then tells her they need to prepare for the other arrivals.
