Excalibur #13
The Cross-Time Caper rolls on in Excalibur #13, and Alan Davis and Paul Neary's cover sets the tone perfectly — the team (Captain Britain, a blonde woman, a fiery figure in red, and Nightcrawler) looks decidedly small against the enormous sandaled foot and spiked flail of some unseen giant, while a lone armored guard stands nearby and a speech bubble cheekily asks, "What Palace Guard?" It's a wonderfully playful bit of visual comedy that captures exactly the off-kilter, dimension-hopping energy that made this 1989 series such a treat. With Chris Claremont writing and Davis penciling, this is the British superhero team at its most charming and imaginative.
