The penultimate stretch of Marvel's twelve-issue limited series delivers one of its most unsettling cover images: Sersi, glowing energy crackling from her hands, directs her transmutation power at a blonde figure whose face is already warping into something monstrous — the horrified word balloon screaming "…A DEVIANT!" making the stakes viscerally clear. A second Eternal looks on in alarm in the background, while the victim's grotesquely transformed face dominates the foreground in a striking close-up that Al Milgrom renders with real dramatic punch. With Walter Simonson writing and Keith Pollard on interior art, this 1986 issue promises a story worthy of that cover's dark, queasy tension.
