About this Collection

This volume collects the early adventures of Simon Garth, the tragic hero turned into a mindless undead servant, from Marvel's 1970s horror comics. It features appearances by Dracula, the voodoo priestess Marie Laveau, and the serpent god Damballah, as Garth struggles against dark forces while trapped in his zombie form. The collection reprints material from the original Tales of the Zombie series and related titles, presented in black-and-white to match the Essential format.

"Zombie!" kicks off a chilling tale in Essential Tales of the Zombie #1, a 2006 Marvel release where a desperate criminal named Blackie learns too late that playing with the dead is a dangerous game. With artwork by Tony DiPreta and a cover by Pablo Marcos, the story unfolds in a Haitian village where fear and dark magic collide as Blackie’s attempt to summon a zombie backfires in the most horrifying way.
