The concluding chapter of Peter Milligan and Duncan Fegredo's unsettling Vertigo series arrives with a cover as strange and layered as the series itself. Fegredo's artwork presents a pale, robed figure raising a small green serpent aloft in one hand while holding a diptych image — a golden mask above, a shadowed face below — against his chest, all set against an intricate, gold-patterned background. Colorist Sherilyn Van Valkenburgh's contrast between the warm reds of that central panel and the cooler surrounding tones gives the whole composition a quietly hypnotic pull that feels perfectly suited to Enigma's brand of psychological strangeness.
