Equipped with a small number of jet fighters, von Hammer leads his men against overwhelming odds. Shot down near Dachau, he sees a concentration camp firsthand and angrily demands that his men join him in surrendering to the Allies. Engels tries to kill him, but Stalschmidt kills Engels and convinces von Hammer that German civilians still need their protection. As the end finally comes, von Hammer destroys his jets and surrenders his unit to Easy company.
