Elephantmen #58

Richard Starkings and Axel Medellin's long-running pulp science-fiction series delivers one of its most viscerally arresting covers with issue #58, subtitled "The Prodigal Son Brings Death." The cover presents a striking split-image figure — half skeletal anatomy, half a dark-skinned woman with dreadlocks and glowing eyes — cradling what appears to be a monstrous hybrid fetus, rendered with unsettling biological detail against a clinical, industrial backdrop. It's the kind of haunting, thought-provoking imagery that has made Elephantmen one of Image Comics' most distinctive ongoing series in 2014.
