Peter Milligan's thoughtful Vertigo series continues with issue four of seven, subtitled "The Book of the Heart." Glyn Dillon's cover is quietly arresting — a brooding figure in a blue cap and red robes rests his chin on his hand, surrounded by a swarm of iridescent flies hovering over what appear to be tiny scattered skeletal forms on a sun-baked surface, with the angular geometry of pyramids rising in the warm, dusty background. It's a haunting, contemplative image that feels perfectly at home in Vertigo's 1995 lineup of mature, myth-inflected storytelling.
