Durango Kid #22

The Durango Kid encounters a mysterious stranger named Hermit Jones, a man who claims to have been away from civilization for many years and built a temple and idol that a Native American tribe believes grants magical powers. When Deputy Marshal Harrison arrives at the Catawba village, the Durango Kid explains his mission to the chief and tries to recruit the tribe to fight for freedom and the future against criminals. Harrison confronts the Durango Kid about his masked identity, arguing that wearing a mask makes him an outlaw, but the Kid asserts that the mask allows him to do things no regular lawman can do. A confrontation ensues as Harrison attempts to enforce the law against the masked vigilante.
