The Durango Kid investigates a series of cattle rustlings and murders plaguing the region. After discovering that a man of tremendous strength with a broken back is connected to the crimes, the Kid and the sheriff uncover a clue pointing to the circus—a group of owl-hoots with a one-and-a-half hour head start. Working with railroad agents, the Durango Kid uses modern telegraph technology to alert nearby towns and sets out on horseback to intercept the rustlers. The culprits are revealed to be "The Fox" and associates, including British counter-intelligence chief Major Sylvester, who are caught in an ambush at a well near the Wild Boar Inn.
