“Four Corners of Your World Part Four "Check Out!"”
About this Issue

DuckTales #4 (Dynamite Entertainment, March 2025) is part of a historically significant series — the fourth comic book run based on the original 1987 DuckTales animated series and, crucially, the first new canon project set in the classic 'Disney Afternoon universe' since Joe Books' Darkwing Duck title was cancelled roughly seven years prior. The issue itself is part of the opening story arc ('Four Corners of Your World'), which is structured around Scrooge narrating past adventures to his nephews in a dual present/flashback format — a storytelling device that consciously echoes the Carl Barks and Don Rosa tradition of embedding wisdom inside adventure. Issue #4, subtitled 'Check Out!', introduces Miss Bookbeak, the Duckburg Library's head librarian, a new character original to the Dynamite series, and closes with a preview teasing future appearances by Gizmoduck and Bubba the Caveduck, signaling the series' intention to populate its pages with the full ensemble of the beloved 1987 cartoon.

History

The series was publicly announced on July 23, 2024, and formally previewed in September 2024, with DuckTales #1 launching November 6, 2024 — Dynamite's first foray into the Duckburg corner of its Disney licensing portfolio, which already included Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles. Editor Nate Cosby recruited writer Brandon Montclare — known for co-creating Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur at Marvel and Rocket Girl at Image, and for editorial work at DC Comics — specifically on the strength of his all-ages storytelling credentials. Montclare in turn collaborated with Italian artist Tommaso Ronda, a veteran of the European Disney comics studio system, who also contributed interior colors to the book; letterer Fabio Amelia and colorist Agnese Eterno rounded out the crew for issue #4. The series was deliberately anchored to the 1987 cartoon continuity rather than the 2017 reboot, with Montclare on record stating the team is 'locked into the 1987 cartoon' while acknowledging the deeper Barks/Rosa heritage that cartoon itself drew upon.
