DuckTales #3 (March 2025) is part of the broader series that marks the first new canon comic project set in the original 1987 Disney Afternoon animated universe since the cancellation of Joe Books' Darkwing Duck title — a gap of roughly seven years — and the first dedicated original DuckTales comic property since the DuckTales Remastered video game in 2013. Written by Brandon Montclare and brought to life by Tommasso Ronda’s dynamic art and Giovanna La Pietra’s vivid colors, this 2025 issue from Dynamite Entertainment delivers a classic adventure with a fresh, grounded energy. The series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, 2024, as part of Dynamite Entertainment's expanded Disney licensing relationship, which at the time also included Darkwing Duck and Zootopia titles. Editor Nate Cosby recruited writer Brandon Montclare — best known for Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur at Marvel and Rocket Girl at Image — specifically to helm the book, with Italian artist Tommaso Ronda (Kalya) chosen to bring the four-color visuals; Ronda hails from Italy, a country with a historically deep bench of acclaimed Disney comics artists. The series launched in November 2024 and issue #3 shipped March 5, 2025; Montclare has described the opening arc as deliberately rooting the first six issues entirely within Duckburg before the stories expand outward, with each chapter structured as 'two stories in one' — a present-day adventure and a Barks-homage flashback sequence in the classic eight-page style.
