“The Debt”

In "The Debt," the last two dragons of their kind—Dragon and Serpent—navigate a fragile bond as they travel the world in human form, their connection tested when they’re captured by terrorists in Egypt. Flashbacks reveal a centuries-old secret tied to the same prison, where a man named Mark once freed a woman during the Second Crusade, setting a chain of events that echoes across time. Written by Henry Vogel and illustrated by Willie Peppers, with inks by Bruce Solotoff and letters by David H. Willis, the issue’s cover by Willie Peppers captures the mystery and weight of their shared past.

Dragon and Serpent are the last male and female of an dragon race. Aside from being normally large dragons, they share a unique ability-- they can change into human form. Having recently discovered each other, they continue travelling the world together while working on their new-found relationship. In Egypt, they are kidnapped by terrorists who are using the same hostage prison that Mark had been 800 years earlier. In flashback, during the Second Crusade, Mark freed an Egyptian woman who had been kidnapped by some knights and held prisoner in this same prison.
