The halfway point of this ambitious 12-issue series arrives with one of 2018's most unsettling cover images: Mime and Marionette rendered as actual marionette dolls — wooden, jointed, and eerily still — suspended on strings amid a shadowy crowd of grotesque puppet figures, a skeletal mask, and a Boston terrier doll lurking at the edges. Gary Frank's craftsmanship turns the Watchmen-universe antiheroes into something genuinely uncanny, blurring the line between performer and plaything with remarkable detail. If the series has had you hooked, issue six — subtitled "Truly Laugh" — promises that the tension is far from letting up.
