The series was announced at the Women of Marvel Panel at New York Comic Con in October 2024, with writer MacKenzie Cadenhead — a former Marvel editor who had previously developed young-reader content for the publisher — making her debut on the Strange Academy property. Cadenhead pitched the book as a Zoe-centric story that deliberately dug into old Doctor Doom comics to seed Latverian-flavored new characters alongside the returning Strange Academy cast, with artist Pasqual Ferry handling the main story and João Lemos providing distinct visual sequences for the fairy-tale-book sequences that distinguish issues #2 through #4. Editor Nick Lowe shepherded the series as a tie-in to the broader One World Under Doom initiative, which repositioned Doctor Doom as Sorcerer Supreme following events established in the 2024 Blood Hunt crossover.
