Doom Academy #3

History

The Doom Academy series was announced at New York Comic Con 2024's Women of Marvel panel and grew directly out of the Blood Hunt event, in which Doctor Doom maneuvered Doctor Strange into surrendering the title of Sorcerer Supreme. Writer MacKenzie Cadenhead, working with editor Nick Lowe, conceived the dual-world structure early in development: the Doom Academy sections (drawn by Pasqual Ferry, fresh off an extended run on Doctor Strange) contrast stylistically with the Eastern European folklore sequences illustrated by João Lemos, whose research into Latverian fairy-tale traditions shaped the Arcana Latveriana sequences that are central to issue #3. Cadenhead has noted that digging through vintage Doctor Doom stories to surface obscure characters and their descendants — the kind of deep-cuts worldbuilding that informs the Montimore siblings subplot — was a foundational part of the series' creative development.
