Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #27

This March 1991 issue puts Doctor Strange at the center of a psychedelic storm, his red-and-blue Sorcerer Supreme costume unmistakable as he's engulfed by a surging mass of purple, writhing figures pressing in from his left while a snarling, dark-furred beast lunges at him from the right — all set against a dizzying green-and-yellow vortex that fills the entire background. Michael Golden's cover work delivers a real sense of supernatural overload, with Strange looking genuinely beleaguered but still reaching outward, as if marshaling every last ounce of mystic will. With Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas scripting and Chris Marrinan on interior art, issue #27 looks like a richly chaotic chapter in Strange's ongoing battle against forces that refuse to stay in their own dimension.
