Doctor Strange #59

Doctor Strange conjures blazing mystic energy in both hands as he confronts an enormous, unsettling owl-like face that dominates the cover — its wide yellow eyes and sweeping radiant form filling the background with an otherworldly menace. Below him, a hawk or eagle spreads its wings in an equally striking pose, giving the whole composition a haunting, nature-meets-the-supernatural atmosphere that fits the "Children of the Night!" title perfectly. Dan Green and Terry Austin deliver a visually commanding cover for this June 1983 Marvel issue that makes it very easy to see why Doctor Strange's corner of the Marvel Universe felt unlike anything else on the stands at the time.
