Doctor Spektor: Master of the Occult #3

Cover artist Christian Ward conjures a genuinely unsettling image for this third issue: Doctor Spektor — bloodied, wide-eyed, his purple hair matted against his pale face — sinking into a churning dark tide, one desperate hand clawing upward through what appears to be barbed wire. It's a striking visual that captures the series' occult-horror tone perfectly, suggesting the Master of the Occult is in very deep trouble indeed. Mark Waid's modern reimagining of the Gold Key character, brought to life interiorly by Neil Edwards and Roberto Castro, continues to look like one of Dynamite's more intriguing 2014 offerings.
