DMZ #37
DMZ #37 kicks off the "War Powers" arc with a cover by John Paul Leon that immediately signals the collision of political muscle and military force — a film-strip of suited, sunglasses-wearing figures lines the left side, while a military helicopter marked "07" looms over crouching soldiers on the right, the whole image rendered in a moody, documentary palette. Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli's Vertigo series has always found sharp drama in Manhattan's war-torn demilitarized zone, and this opening chapter promises that the power brokers are moving in alongside the boots on the ground. A tense, atmospheric start to what looks like a story where politics and combat are dangerously intertwined.
