About this Collection

This volume collects the complete 'Ice Sword Saga,' a sweeping fantasy adventure starring Mickey Mouse and Goofy, originally serialized in Italian Disney comics. Created by writer/artist Romano Scarpa, the story follows Mickey as he wields a legendary ice sword to save a mystical kingdom from a frozen curse. Part of Fantagraphics' Disney Masters series, this edition showcases Scarpa's influential artwork and storytelling from the mid-20th century.

In "The Secret of the Ice Sword," Mickey and Goofy are once again called to the mystical realm of Argaar by the wizard Yor, this time to save the technologically advanced Ululand from a catastrophic volcanic eruption. With Goofy unexpectedly revered as a hero by the people of Ululand—despite his own doubts—Mickey must help him prepare for the high-stakes Great Tournament of Argaar, where the winner claims a rare mineral capable of quelling the volcano. Written by Massimo De Vita and Joe Torcivia, with art and inks by De Vita, and a striking cover by Andrea Freccero, this 2019 Disney Masters installment blends whimsy and urgency in a tale where courage is tested as much as confidence.
