Dial H #4

Part of DC's New 52 initiative, Dial H #4 brings China Miéville's strange superhero saga to a genuinely unsettling place with a cover by Brian Bolland that commands attention. Dominating the image is a massive serpentine creature — fangs bared, yellow eyes blazing, clawed hands outstretched — looming over a much smaller costumed hero who clutches a dial and stands his ground with sunglasses and stubborn resolve. It's a striking size contrast that captures the off-kilter, imaginative energy Miéville and artist Mateus Santolouco bring to this 2012 series.
