Deadpool: Wade Wilson's War #1
This Marvel Knights limited series kicks off with a cover that means business — Deadpool strides forward in bullet-riddled red-and-black armor, flanked by two fierce female warriors, with a chaotic battle erupting in the smoke-filled background behind them. Jason Pearson's artwork sells the gritty, pulpy tone perfectly, giving the whole scene the feel of a grindhouse war movie poster brought gloriously to life. Duane Swierczynski and Paul Mounts round out the creative team, and if this first issue's cover energy is any indication, Wade Wilson's war is going to be one wild ride.

After a massacre in Mexico in which hundreds of people were killed, the sole surviving member of the mercenary team who caused the fracas is brought before a senate investigative committee to supply some answers. Deadpool spills the beans about the super secret "Team X" comprised of himself, Domino, Silver Sable and Bullseye. He regales them with a tale of their early exploits in which they battled Contras in Nicaragua back in 1983. The chairman insists that Deadpool take off his mask while addressing the assembly and he prepares to do so.
