Deadpool #40
Deadpool goes full cosmic in this 2000 Marvel gem, with a cover by Cully Hamner that cheekily riffs on Alien — Deadpool's masked face emerges from a glowing green egg-like form against a dark, atmospheric backdrop, complete with the tagline "In Space… No One Can Hear You Scream…" and Wade's irrepressible speech bubble promising he'll keep yelling anyway. It's a wonderfully self-aware visual gag that captures the Merc with a Mouth's inability to take even sci-fi horror seriously. With Priest and Diaz credited on the cover and the interior story "Warriors Four!" waiting inside, this issue balances laughs and adventure in equal measure.
