“Out the Window”

Tied into Marvel's 2014 Original Sin event, Deadpool #33 arrives with one of the more unexpectedly charming covers of the year — a child's Magna Doodle-style drawing board at the center of a chaotic still life, its white surface bearing a crayon sketch of Deadpool brandishing a sword and a gun, signed with a scrawled "#1 Dead." Scattered around the board are spent bullet casings, broken crayons, a battered teddy bear, and assorted debris that suggest the Merc with a Mouth has been busy in ways no babysitter would approve. Cover artist Mike Del Mundo brings a painterly, almost whimsical quality to the whole messy tableau, making "Out the Window" feel like a story you genuinely want to crack open.
