“This Mortal Coil!”

Part two of DC's 1986 four-part Deadman mini-series finds Boston Brand dead in the crosshairs — literally — as José Luis García-López's cover depicts the spectral hero lunging forward in his pale blue costume, caught within a bold yellow targeting reticle against a stark black background. The countdown "…7…6…5…4…3…2…1… FIRE!!!" blazoned across the bottom gives the image an urgent, pulse-quickening energy that perfectly suits a ghost who can never quite escape danger. Andrew Helfer and García-López were clearly crafting something with real style and stakes here.
