Dead Space #4
The penultimate chapter of this six-issue sci-fi horror series from Image delivers a cover that is genuinely unsettling: a man stands with hands clasped in prayer, eyes closed, bathed in an eerie golden light, while an enormous, grotesquely mutated creature looms cruciform above him against a blood-red background. The juxtaposition of quiet devotion and monstrous horror captures the series' tension between faith and cosmic terror perfectly. Antony Johnston and Ben Templesmith's collaboration continues to be one of the more atmospheric horror comics to come out of this era.
