Dead Space #5
Ben Templesmith's cover art for this penultimate issue of Dead Space is a genuinely unsettling piece of work — a grotesque, humanoid necromorph figure looms against a smoldering red-and-gold backdrop, its chest torn open, tendrils writhing outward and skeletal hands reaching toward the viewer. The creature's half-human face makes it all the more disturbing, that uncanny blend of recognition and horror sitting at the heart of what Antony Johnston and Templesmith do so well together. With the six-part series nearly at its conclusion, this Image title shows no signs of easing up on the dread.
