DC: The New Frontier #2
This volume continues the epic reimagining of DC's Silver Age, collecting the second half of Darwyn Cooke's acclaimed six-issue miniseries. It follows the formation of the Justice League as heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman emerge from the shadow of Cold War paranoia to unite against a cosmic threat.
In "Chapter Nine: The Flying Cloud," Task Force X launches into space without Hal Jordan, leaving J'onn J'onzz desperate to join them—only to be captured by King Faraday. As the mission collapses and survivors scatter, the Challengers move in to rescue them, while the government scrambles to reach Superman. Meanwhile, Jordan, still in the simulator, is suddenly pulled into a green light, vanishing mid-simulation.
In "Chapter Eleven: Towards the Centre," Superman and Batman grapple with the mystery of John Jones’s final message, while Wonder Woman feels an unseen presence close by. As the Challs, joined by Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, head toward Cape Canaveral to confront a reported pterodactyl, Superman takes flight—just as Aquaman senses something strange stirring beneath the ocean.
In "Chapter Thirteen: Danger Is Our Business," the Flash, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow and Speedy, the Sea Devils, the Blackhawks, and Hal Jordan race to Dinosaur Island, where danger and mystery await. With the team united and the stakes rising, the mission tests their courage and resolve in ways they never expected.
In "Chapter Fourteen: The Boy Scout's Last," Wonder Woman recounts the fierce battle between the Amazons and the dinosaurs of Dinosaur Island—a clash that left her gravely wounded and stranded in our world. As Superman listens, he rallies the heroes to face the island’s menace, only to be struck down by a colossal blast and plunged into the sea, his fate uncertain.
In "Chapter Fifteen: Shall Earth Endure?" from DC: The New Frontier #2, Lois Lane covers the aftermath of Superman’s disappearance as cosmic forces stir. Adam Strange, recently freed from Arkham Asylum, teams up with scientist Ray Palmer as Earth’s brightest minds race to confront the threat of Dinosaur Island.
In "Chapter Sixteen: The Dawn Patrol" from DC: The New Frontier, the heroes face a dire threat as scientists unveil a desperate plan to stop a drifting island by slowing it down and then detonating it with white dwarf rays. With time running out, the fate of the island—and everyone on it—hangs in the balance.
