Daredevil #19

Paolo Rivera's cover for this 2012 Eisner Award–winning series is a genuinely arresting image: a towering black-clad villain cradles Daredevil's severed mask — the Man Without Fear reduced, at least symbolically, to a trophy in an enemy's hands, set against a blood-red backdrop dripping white at the bottom. The bold cover copy, "Head Comes Off Of…," does exactly what a great cover should — makes you need to know what's inside. Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, and Javier Rodríguez were firing on all cylinders during this acclaimed run, and issue #19 looks like no exception.
